We hear about the benefits of diet and exercise on a daily basis.  Nutrition and a healthy lifestyle are touted as the go to preventative measures for good health, but what about food as medicine?

As a parent, feeding a newborn is pretty simple.  Often all they need is milk. If they have a cold, feed them more breastmilk.  For moms that struggle with nursing or who have babies with food intolerances, there are other options like formula or other forms of milk alternatives.

As active adults, we all need to find ways to get the proper amount of nutrients.  Some of us are lucky enough to have time to cook and grow their own food, but for some we need to turn to purchasing protein powders.

Protein powders come in a number of flavors and ingredients.  It is important to try to stay away from powders that are high in added sugar and other harmful ingredients.  Also check with your medical professional to determine if powders are right for you.

If you do decide to purchase protein powder, there are two that I find to be gluten free, contains no artificial flavors, no growth hormones, and no artificial preservatives.

Whey Factors Powder Mix is rGH free, from cows that have never been treated with growth hormones.

Bluebonnet Whey Protein Isolate is soy-free, gluten-free, kosher, and is from free-roaming, grass-fed cows.

Let me know if you have tried either of these and if you have any recommendations.
